67. Insights from EV Charging in Norway
Monday Mar 15, 2021
Monday Mar 15, 2021
In this episode, Jon Slowe is joined by Fredrik Lima, Vice President Europe at Zaptec, to explore what Norway can teach us about EV charging. Norway is often seen as Europe’s EV frontrunner, leading in both EVs per person and the share of electric car sales. While strong tax incentives make it a distinctive market, its experience at the forefront still offers valuable lessons for countries following behind.

64. Hydrogen boilers: how much of a challenge?
Monday Jan 25, 2021
Monday Jan 25, 2021
Hydrogen could be flowing through gas pipes into homes in the future. If so, we’ll need boilers that can run on hydrogen to heat our homes, as well as hydrogen powered fuel cells or hydrogen powered thermally driven heat pumps. In this episode we explore the challenges in developing hydrogen boilers. Host Jon Slowe is joined by two of Europe’s leading boiler manufacturers - Tom Collins, Hydrogen Lead at Bosch Thermotechnology; Jon Phillips, Group Product Manager for wall hung boilers at BDR Thermea; and Delta-EE expert Steven Ashurst. Find out more about our hydrogen research at www.delta-ee.com/hydrogen.

63. New Energy: What do customers think?
Monday Jan 18, 2021
Monday Jan 18, 2021
Customers will be at the heart of much of the energy transition. No longer does the boundary of the energy system end at the meter: EVs, heat pumps, batteries and flexible loads will all play a big role in services to customers and the energy system. In this episode we will take a look at customers needs and wants, how they react to certain propositions, and we also look at highlights of our own customer research.

62. Hydrogen implications for gas network operators
Monday Jan 11, 2021
Monday Jan 11, 2021
In the episode, Jon Slowe is joined by Eva Hennig, Head of EU Energy Policy at Thüga and chair of Eurogas’s distribution committee, and Keith Owen, Head of Systems Development and Energy Strategy at Northern Gas Networks, to explore how Europe built one of the world’s strongest gas distribution infrastructures. The challenge is that this network carries natural gas, a fuel we must rapidly move away from to meet net zero goals.
The conversation examines whether the existing system could instead transport clean hydrogen, either through blending as an interim step or by shifting to pure hydrogen in the future, setting aside the debate over whether we should pursue this path and focusing instead on whether we can and what it would take to make it possible.

59. Shell, their net zero ambition, and decarbonising heat
Monday Dec 14, 2020
Monday Dec 14, 2020
In this episode, Jon Slowe is joined by Jo Coleman OBE, Shell’s UK Energy Transition Manager to discuss how the energy transition is seeing a whole host of companies having to transform themselves from 'old' energy to 'new' energy. One of the best examples of this is the journey that some oil companies are embarking on. Repsol and more recently Shell have declared bold ambitions to be net-zero businesses. Should we think of them as oil and gas companies – or new energy companies? How will they make the transition to become net-zero businesses, and what are they doing about this today?
