67. Insights from EV Charging in Norway
Monday Mar 15, 2021
Monday Mar 15, 2021
In this episode we head to Norway, famous for being the leader in the European EV market – at least in terms of EVs per person and percentage of car sales that are electric. Some will say Norway’s not typical – tax incentives certainly help to push people to EVs. But there is plenty to learn from Norway’s experience at the leading edge. Today, we’re going to explore what we can learn about charging of EVs in Norway. Host Jon Slowe is joined by Delta-EE's Abhishek Sampat and Fredrik Lima, Vice President Europe at Zaptec.

65. EV Charging: how to solve the on-street challenge?
Monday Mar 01, 2021
Monday Mar 01, 2021
In this podcast, host Jon Slowe explores the options for charging for those that park their electric vehicles on-street. He is joined by two of Delta-EE’s EV team, Alex Lewis-Jones and Kate Armitage, to discuss those innovating in this space across Europe.

64. Hydrogen boilers: how much of a challenge?
Monday Jan 25, 2021
Monday Jan 25, 2021
Hydrogen could be flowing through gas pipes into homes in the future. If so, we’ll need boilers that can run on hydrogen to heat our homes, as well as hydrogen powered fuel cells or hydrogen powered thermally driven heat pumps. In this episode we explore the challenges in developing hydrogen boilers. Host Jon Slowe is joined by two of Europe’s leading boiler manufacturers - Tom Collins, Hydrogen Lead at Bosch Thermotechnology; Jon Phillips, Group Product Manager for wall hung boilers at BDR Thermea; and Delta-EE expert Steven Ashurst. 63. New Energy - What do customers think?
Monday Jan 18, 2021
Monday Jan 18, 2021
Customers will be at the heart of much of the energy transition. No longer does the boundary of the energy system end at the meter: EVs, heat pumps, batteries and flexible loads will all play a big role in services to customers and the energy system. In this episode we will take a look at customers needs and wants, how they react to certain propositions, and we also look at highlights of Delta-EE's customer research. Host Jon Slowe is joined by Delta-EE experts, David Trevithick and Lodovica Di Deodato.

62. Hydrogen implications for gas network operators
Monday Jan 11, 2021
Monday Jan 11, 2021
Europe has built up one of the best gas distribution infrastructures in the world. There’s one problem though. It distributes natural gas, a fuel that we will hardly be able to use if we’re to reach our net zero targets. Can we use the infrastructure instead for clean hydrogen – either blended with natural gas as a stepping stone, or with pure hydrogen in the future? In this episode we put aside discussion on the extent to which we should do this – and focus on whether or not we can do this, and what’s involved in doing so.
Jon Slowe is joined by Eva Hennig, Head of Department for EU Energy Policy at Thüga, an alliance of German municipal energy companies (as well as chair of Eurogas’s distribution committee); Keith Owen Head of Systems Development and Energy Strategy at Northern Gas Networks in the UK; and Delta-EE expert, Rob Castek.

61. Unlocking the opportunity for residential flexibility
Monday Jan 04, 2021
Monday Jan 04, 2021
Demand side flexibility across Europe is growing. It’s set to play a bigger and bigger role as the energy transition accelerates. This week we discuss residential-scale demand response, focusing on the nitty-gritty issues of standards and interoperability, which can play a huge role in opening up and facilitating markets. Host Jon Slowe is joined by Adriaan van Eck, from the Flexible Alliance Network, based in the Netherlands; Nina Klein, from the UK Government department of Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy; and Delta-EE expert Lucy Murley.

59. Shell, their net zero ambition, and decarbonising heat
Monday Dec 14, 2020
Monday Dec 14, 2020
The energy transition is seeing a whole host of companies having to transform themselves. One of the best examples of this is the journey that some oil companies are embarking on. Repsol and more recently Shell have declared bold ambitions to be net-zero businesses. Should we think of them as oil and gas companies – or new energy companies? How will they make the transition to become net-zero businesses, and what are they doing about this today? We explored these questions with Jo Coleman OBE, Shell’s UK Energy Transition Manager, and Lindsay Sugden, Delta-EE’s Head of Heat. For more information on our research, visit www.delta-ee.com.

Monday Dec 07, 2020
Monday Dec 07, 2020
Life as a new entrant energy retailer. What's it like to grow a new entrant retailer to hundreds of thousands of customers? And what does the future hold for such a company as the energy transition unfolds? In this episode, host Jon Slowe is joined by two rapidly growing energy retailers from France and the UK - Charlie Davies, Co-Founder of So Energy; Julien Tchernia, President of Ekwateur; and Delta-EE expert Charmaine Coutinho.
